Business
The office for the Prospects in Theoretical Physics Program is located in the basement of Bloomberg Hall (BH-043). Registration will take place in the Bloomberg Hall Common Room on Sunday, June 29, from noon to 5 p.m. The office staff may be reached from any campus phone by dialing 8330. Campus phones are located in the downstairs hallway of the Dining Hall and in the center foyer of Fuld Hall (near the stairs).

Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We're here to assist you, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Check Cashing Service
Personal and traveler's checks, up to $100, may be cashed at the Reception desk in Fuld Hall from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Fax and Mail Service
There is a fax machine in the Reception Office on the first floor of Fuld Hall. The fax number is 609-924-8399. The Receptionist is available to send faxes weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A fax cover page must accompany all requests for fax transmittals; a supply of the cover pages may be found at the Reception desk. There is a charge for outgoing faxes.

There is a Mail Information Center in the hallway of the lower level between Fuld Hall and Building B. A postage scale is located there for weighing letters and small parcels. Airbills, envelopes, and information for express mail services are located in this area along with train and bus schedules. U.S. postage stamps may be purchased at the Reception desk in Fuld Hall. There is outgoing mail collection from this office several times a day.

Common Rooms
The Fuld Hall Common Room is open throughout the day and night. An excellent selection of domestic and foreign newspapers and periodicals is maintained by the staff of the Historical Studies/Social Science Library. There is also a small Common Room in Bloomberg Hall. You are most welcome in all common areas of the Institute. We do ask that you respect the rights of others; these areas are for the use of everyone in the Institute community.

Computer Room
The Terminal Room in the Basement of Bloomberg has been equipped with several computers and links for laptops. We are not able to provide computer access from the Institute apartments, but the Terminal Room will be open 24-hours/day. If you are using personal software, do not install it on the hard disk of a PC. Only authorized Institute-purchased software should be installed on the hard disks. Programs installed on the equipment in the computer room and in the offices are the property of the Institute and must not be copied. The copying of software is illegal. PLEASE – no food, beverages, or smoking in computer rooms.

Ground transportation to Princeton
A map of the Princeton area and driving directions are available under the Local Information link on the Institute for Advanced Study home page.  There is regularly scheduled train and bus service from New York and train service from Philadelphia.  From Penn Station (New York City or Newark), take New Jersey Transit (1-201-762-5100) or Amtrak (1-800-321-8684) to Princeton Junction.   From Philadelphia, take Amtrak to Princeton Junction or SEPTA (1-215-580-7800) to Trenton and change trains to Princeton Junction via New Jersey Transit.  Call for current schedule.  Taxis are available at the station.

Buses leave every half hour from Port Authority Bus Terminal (New York City) to Princeton via Suburban Transit (1-800-222-0492).  Purchase a ticket at the Suburban Transit window on the main floor before proceeding to the gate.  Get off at Palmer Square in Princeton.  Taxis are available.

For ground transportation from Newark or JFK Airports, the Airporter provides hourly shuttle service for transportation to and from Newark International Airport ($38 + gratuity) and JFK International Airport ($38 + gratuity).  Advance reservations are recommended; please refer to the Airporter website. Upon arrival at the airport, claim your luggage; go to the Ground Transportation Counter and locate the self-service telephones adjacent to the counter; dial 22 for Airporter and tell them you have arrived. Stay by the phones; the driver will come inside and make a general page for "Airporter."
AirTrain Newark is the new regional rail transportation connection to Newark International Airport. Passengers arriving to
Newark International Airport can take AirTrain Newark directly from the arrivals terminal to the new Rail Link station and then
connect with New Jersey Transit (Northeast Corridor) to Princeton Junction/Princeton. Check the New Jersey Transit train
departure monitor located in any of the airport terminals. New Jersey Transit ticket vending machines are available at Newark
International Airport Station (approximately $11.40, Airport Station to Princeton Junction/Princeton). Ticket vending machines
accept credit cards, debit cards, or US currency. New Jersey Transit trains have limited space for baggage.

Housing
Program participants will be housed in Institute apartments on a shared basis. The cost for Institute housing will be $40/day. Sheets and towels will be provided. Bicycles will be available for rent by contacting Garry Alvin of the mailroom staff. You should pack a pair of sneakers or walking shoes for trips into town or walks in the Institute woods.

Institute Access Cards
Each participant in the Program in Theoretical Physics will receive an Institute Access Card which allows after-hours access to the Fuld Hall and Bloomberg Hall. Further details may be found in the sections entitled Library and Computer Rooms. Access to the computer rooms and the library ends on July 12 and the Access Card must be returned before you leave the Institute.

Your Institute Access Card will allow 24-hour access to the Library of the Schools of Mathematics and Natural Sciences located in Fuld Hall. The Library contains over 30,000 volumes (bound periodicals and monographs in pure and applied mathematics and theoretical and high-enegy physics) plus subscriptions to about 150 journals. Momota Ganguli, Librarian, is in the Library from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., weekdays. All circulating materials must remain in the Library. Please see the librarian if you can't find a book. Messages and Notices
A portable bulletin board is located in the corner of the Bloomberg Hall Common Room, and messages to participants, shuttle schedules, notices about seminars, activities, sign-up sheets, etc. will be posted there. Please be sure to check the bulletin board a few times each day. Updates can also be found on our web site.

On Arrival
If you are coming in on the AIRPORTER from Newark or JFK, you will be dropped off at Fuld Hall at the Institute for Advanced Study. If you arrive by car, park in lot A or lot B and enter the brick building with the clock tower (Fuld Hall). Please come to the Bloomberg Hall Common Room for registration between noon and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. A final schedule, apartment key,  temporary ID cards, and other important materials will be given to you at registration. If you plan to arrive after 5:30 p.m., please let us know so that we can give you appropriate instructions.

Photocopy Machines
The Institute's photocopy machines are controlled by a card system called VendaCard. Each machine has a usage control unit activated by a card. If you need to make copies, contact one of the volunteers in the program who will have copy cards, or come to the program office at Bloomberg Hall to borrow a VendaCard. There is a copier on the second floor of Fuld Hall.

Schedule
A tentative schedule for the entire program is available on the Web, and you will receive a final schedule in your registration packet. Lecture locations will be announced on the final schedule.
