Matias Zaldarriaga
Welcome to my personal IAS page. I share research notes, data projects, and experimental tools; some are developed with my "Cronopios" (Codex and Claude), a name inspired by Julio Cortazar's Historias de cronopios y de famas.
DESI w0wa — Universal Distance Modes
A cosmology paper and fully reproducible code release analyzing the DESI BAO "dark energy" signal. Using an SVD of cosmological distance ratios, it shows that every low-redshift distance probe (DESI BAO, Pantheon+, DES Y5, Union3) measures the same leading mode — a near-perfect proxy for Ωmh² (R² > 0.99). The much-discussed w0wa tension lives almost entirely in that one matter-density direction, so it could originate in the CMB–BAO calibration rather than in new low-redshift physics.
The repository is also meant as an exercise in how to put out a scientific result. It was written end-to-end with my Cronopios (Claude Code), and every number in the paper traces back to the code that produced it: machine-readable claim and figure registries, a self-contained claim dashboard linking each figure to its computation, and precomputed data so anyone can regenerate the figures without rerunning the full pipeline.
