Recently I’ve been experimenting with HDRsoft’s tone mapping plugin v1.0.1 for Adobe Photoshop CS2

Recently I’ve been taking a look at DxO Optics Pro. I was attracted by the fact that this software is the only product on the market that offers automated correction for optical vignetting, chromatic aberration (both lateral as well as purple fringing), pincushion and barrel distortion. It also reduces noise, corrects for lens softness and acts as a RAW converter too.

I took some high ISO indoor shots at the weekend inside Walnford Grist Mill, near Allentown New Jersey. Light levels inside the mill were very low and although I did have my tripod to hand I made a decision to jack the speed right up to ISO 3200 and take some photographs handheld. You might be wondering why …..

Since the introduction of the Canon EOS 5D last year, there’s been a surge in full frame usage and a lot of subsequent discussion about vignetting with various lenses on the 5D in forums, newsgroups etc. Some people are very upset at the vignetting they are seeing. I’ve been doing some thinking on a way to correct the problem …

I haven’t taken any pictures since getting back from a trip to England a week ago, and so yesterday evening I found myself clicking through my images in Adobe Bridge looking for inspiration. It dawned on me that I’d taken three pictures of a particular building from essentially the same angle. More than that though, they were all quite pleasing shots. Roll on spring so I can get the next one in the series ……

Here is an assortment of photographs of mining houses and stacks I took while on vacation in Cornwall recently. These buildings are literally all over the place, and are remnants of a bygone age when tin mining was an important industry.

I lived in Perranporth until I was four and have memories of playing on the beach as a child. It was quite special to return and see the village again.

A couple of days ago I was out walking with a friend in the English South Downs and took a shot of sunlight filtering through clouds onto a distant landscape. At the time rays of sunshine were visible but when I opened the image in Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) they seemed to have disappeared. This post details how a couple of simple adjustments were made to the image to bring it back to life.
