Book Review: Real World Color Management
I’d like to recommend the book Real World Color Management by Bruce Fraser, Chris Murphy and Fred Bunting.
This book is very well written indeed, all (close to) 600 pages of it. Having been very impressed by Bruce Fraser’s Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS2, I found myself transported to new heights with this book.
The first part of the book opens with a very readable chapter entitled “What is color?, which covers many aspects of human color vision (a topic I studied in some depth at University). Computers and color are also covered, as well as what color management really means.
The second part of the book is devoted to building and tuning profiles. Display profiles are covered in detail, as well as input profiles (scanner and digital camera), and output profiles (printer).
The last half half of the book is devoted to applications and workflow (including building a workflow), and scripting.
The book even includes a GATF RHEM light indicator strip to test if your lighting is D50 rated and suitable for critical color viewing.
Highly recommended.

James,
I’m about halfway through this book and I have to say it’s one of the best books I’ve seen. It’s well written and pretty easy to follow. This is definitely one to check out.
Cant wait to get into the scripting section, this is whatI like best.

This book sounds facinating and I will be posting it at our site which covers books reviews. Our authors will appreciate the content; and, what it takes to write a book 600 pages long!
