The Scale of the Universe,Natural History Museum, Washington, D.C., April 21, 1996, PASP, 108, 1097 (December 1996).
This brief article summarizes my impressions of the 1996 debate on the size of the universe. The debate, held in April 1996 in the auditorium of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, was between Sidney van den Berg and Gustav A. Tammann; I was the moderator. The focus of the discussion was the continuing controversy regarding the value of Hubble's constant--the expansion rate of the universe.
