2005 Program Prerequisites
and Suggested Pre-Reading

BACKGROUND READING FOR THE PiTP PROGRAM ON COLLIDER PHYSICS

The prerequisites for the 2005 Program will be:

  • Familiarity with Yang-Mills theory and the Standard Model, at the level of a standard quantum field theory course
  • familiarity with supersymmetry, enough to write Lagrangians for 4-dimensional global supersymmetry

Student who would like to acquire extra background before the summer school can consult the following references:

For background on the Standard Model, see

  • Peskin and Schroeder, An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory, Chapters 17 and 20.

For background on Collider Physics, see

  • Barger and Phillips, Collider Physics.
  • Ellis, Stirling, and Webber, QCD and Collider Physics, esp Chapters 3, 6, 7, 9.

For background on Supersymmetry, see

For background on the LHC, see

For background on Perturbative QCD, see

  • L. Dixon, "Calculating Scattering Amplitudes Efficiently", hep-ph/9601359

PRACTICUM

For Professor Matchev's lectures, knowledge of unix/linux and fortran at the beginner's level is sufficient.  The practicum on simulations will use existing software, so there won't be any need for advanced programming.
